A new cloth diapering resource

Kelly, of Kelly's Closet (I purchased all our cloth diapers and cloth diapering supplies/accessories from here; the customer service is incredible, and I mean it!), is now blogging at The Cloth Diaper Whisperer. She's a great resource about cloth diapering and has been really great about answering my questions via email when I've had them.

There will be a free Bum Genius cloth diaper give-away as part of her grand opening. Cool!

  1. Thanks for the apple advice!  I can't wait to freeze them after we pick them this weekend.  And they still have a great taste after freezing them??  *hope*
--And concerning your cloth diaper post-I give you a lot of credit for doing it.  I couldn't do it.  Just potty training makes me ill when they have a "mistake" in their underwear! lol.  Fortunately Walmart distribution center gives our church free diapers.  I haven't had to buy diapers (except the occasional packs between shipments) since Dec 2006!!  I did consider cloth diapering (gag) for awhile mostly to save money but thankfully God gave me another way out----Walmart's free stuff!  (Thank you Lord!)  I have a weak stomach! :)  But if a woman can handle it, I say go for it.  It's way healthier too. :)

  2. Thanks for sharing this!  I actually need to order some larger sized AIOs for overnight!  And free diaper drawings are always good to enter -one day I just might win too.

  4. @MrsRYoung - Cloth diapering is really not anywhere near as gross as I thought it would be!  It's amazing how much easier it is, especially if you get simple diapers like the pocket ones I own.  I'm not trying to make anyone feel like they need to cloth diaper themselves, but I also do want to make sure others realize how much less work it is than we (myself included!) imagine.

  5. Hi Brietta,
Thanks for the cloth diaper information. Its been very helpful. I have been using the Charlie's soap to wash Emarie's diapers and it works great. I was unsure about how much to use though. On the soap package it says to use one tablespoon but on the cloth diaper washing instructions it says to use half the soap the package says to use. Is that always the case? I have been using one tablespoon but I don't know if thats too much?
    Thanks for your help!

  6. @MelissaLange - The great thing about Charlie's Soap is that it's 100% water soluble, unlike most detergents.  This means that a whole scoop easily dissolves in just a couple cups of water (I've tried it just to be sure it's true!).  Diapers need plenty of detergent to get the bacteria out, which is why a soluble detergent like Charlie's is so good to use.So, yes, use the full scoop!   Since I have toddler diapers (yuckier/stinkier poo residue), I often use 2 scoops on particularly dirty loads.  All I have to do then is make sure I run an extra rinses to be sure I got all the detergent out.
