Summer Days

I'm afraid my children are beginning to think much like I did my whole life up until age 19 and my first major move: that beaches and clean waterways are in close proximity to every American home. I expect there will come a day of harsh awakening for them at some point in their lives, just like there was in mine. Until then, however, they are thoroughly enjoying leisurely afternoons and picnic dinners on the beach-- and they think this is entirely normal and perfectly acceptable to expect on a hot summer's day.

  1. Wow- Jackson looks so grown up! It looks like your kids really are used to the water... mine were practically in a panic when their toes touched wet sand. (Mariah was the best of the bunch and she cautiously sat close enough for the waves to lap up around her legs.)

  2. hah! i agree! Having grown up swimming in a lake all summer, and then moving to missouri at 18, with every lake in the state man-made, the muddy mississppi in my backyard, and the coasts about as far away as they could be... it took some getting used to. i'm glad we are moving back, at the very least so my kids can grow up swimming every day! it's such a blessing.

  3. I have always taken the amount of beaches (and clean water in general) we have around here and never realized it until just a few weeks ago.  I guess I had always thought we lacked in water activities because we didnt live close to the ocean -how wrong I was!  I was talking with a friend in TN and mentioned we were planning to head to the beach and her comment was along the lines of -how many hours does it take you to get there?  LOL!
PS: If you ever want to take the kids but Daniel is too busy, I would love to meet you at a beach!  Ours is great and seems to be mostly empty lately...

  4. Summer afternoons at a lake, without driving an hour or more.  What a blessing!  Keep enjoying those days at the beach.  The kids look like they love it.  I know I would.

  5. i am quite envious of bronwyn's bathing suit. it looks adorable, not that i think it would look as good on me=) out of curiousity- do you own a maternity bathing suit? I have yet to be pregnant (or big enough) in the summer to consider buying one.

  6. jackson is so adorable.
after living at home and then living by the largest lake in Germany i've decided that living by clean rivers, lakes, seas, oceans, or whatever it is, should be a necessity of life.

  7. LOVED your post about order and routine!
Isn't there always a necessary balance where our strengths & weaknesses are concerned? I know many moms who struggle because they completely LACK both order and routine. So, it's wise for you to see how you can grow in that area.
    Very encouraging- as always!

  8. So, doing work that requires a computer is a really bad thing because when I get confused or frustrated....I find myself surfing xanga. But maybe it's a good thing because I get to see your beautiful adorable children again. :)

I think my favorite is the one of daniel holding gabriel. That's definitely daniel's 'I'm having so much fun and I'm probably about 9 years old again' face...reminds me of the good old days. :)

Can't wait to see you all in less than a week.

  9. I grew up with exactly one week of beach time each year.  That was always our vacation.  How wonderful that the children can have that blessing.  Loved the pictures as usual.  Thanks so very much.  Love, Gram  See you soon!
