Even vs. Odd

When Bronwyn was born, the nurse commented on how nice her date of birth was: 8-12-04. "A good set of even numbers," was, I believe, what she said.

Ever since then, when a baby is born, I take note of whether their birth dates are even-numbered. (Several born recently do have even birth dates, in case you were wondering.)

And ever since then, it's been very distressful to me that my other children's birth dates aren't all even numbers. My birth date isn't even either, though Daniel's is.

I wish I could go back in time and erase that nurse's comment. It drives me insane to always be checking numbers of birth dates.

Sheesh.

  1. Brietta-
Doesn't sound too weird to me.
When my son was born on a 9th and two girls on a 10th, I was sure new baby would arrive on an 8th or 11th. Wasn't I surprised when she arrived on a 24th?
I was hoping to be consecutive, because me and my siblings are all consecutive (21st, 22nd, 23rd).
    Dates are fun! :)

  2. Do you have any idea how many people have asked me, "Aren't you excited about a singleton? After all- you'll have an even 8 children now- and an even 10 altogether!"
They know me too well. These things matter! They really do.
A couple weeks ago Jeremy was here for a movie. He shouted in to Eric, "I turned the volume down to 43, OK?" I tried hard to ignore his comment, but just couldn't. I came out of the bedroom (attempting to be nonchalant about the whole thing) and made my way to the receiver. They both laughed and shouted, "I KNEW IT! I KNEW SHE COULDN'T LEAVE IT!" The sad part was...I wasn't even watching the movie. Ugh.
    Colbs- 2nd
    Molly- 14th
    Ave & Ri- 28th
    Ems & Brads- 10th
and then there is my Timothy- due on the 31st (gasp!) and born on the 27th...

  3. @LisaMCriscitello - Ah yes, but Lisa, what months and years are they born in?  Even Gabriel (2-26) loses because he was born in '03.  See, the chances of having a truly even-numbered birth date is so slim!  Agghhhh!!!!And just for the record, that remote thing totally cracks me up.  Ha ha ha!

  4. After reading this you had me thinking about all our dates. And the fact that this baby stands no chance as well for most likely going to be born in July. At first I was really excited because it's 08, baby could come on an even day, and July wasn't registering as 7 but 6. Needless to say I was pretty pumped. Then I realized my mistake but was more disturbed by how disappointed I felt! The rest of us have either have a negative month day or year. So thanks... now I feel WE are ALL missing out on something really cool!  All well!

  5. While the birth date numbers don't actually matter, I can understand this frustration! Now you have me thinking about it. Lol.
    Wes: 12-28-04 (yay!)Me: 04-06-84 (yay!)
Corinne and Natalie: 06-03-06 (I actually like this one because it works in multiples of 3s)
Lucas: 12-09-85 (Yeah, he's the oddball! *winks)

  6. My oldests birthdate is all odd numbers
My 2nd's is all even numbers
My 3rd is even, odd, odd
So I have both all odd and all even, and then the mixed birthdate at the end.  Pretty cool I guess!

  7. Yup, totally relate to this one.  (I am much like Lisa on this and Dale likes to try and get me too.  Sadly it just about always works!)  There is just something comforting about nice even numbers.  I will say, though, that the birthdates never crossed my mind...  Dale: 2/12  Me: 2/19 Austin: 5/20  Ashlyn: 12/22  Cole: 11/4  -We are pretty evenly split!
As for teething...  I had never heard that!  I asked my mom when I got mine one time... "I have no idea" as the response.  Dales mom...  "Oh, sometime around 4 to 6 months"  LOL
Have I asked you yet about introducing foods/juices to your little ones?  Around when do you start and what do you start with??

  8. Ughhh!  I think you started something here in our minds:  my kids birth years are all even but one:  90, 92, 96, 96, and 97!  The birthdates are all odd, but one:  25, 5,1, 24, and 27!!!  Soooo, maybe that is a pattern, huh?  But it does make me feel good that we have birthdays every other month!  I guess I better stop this   Have a great day.

  9. I must confess I haven´t even bothered checking our birth dates even after reading this... numbers are too much for me.  I did find it interesting, though, that while attending a ladies´conference last night even or odd birth dates were one of the ways you could get a chance for one of the prizes!
