I'm not a gadget sort of person. I keep the basics around-- and not much else.

In fact, today I was wondering why I have a blender. I don't use a blender. I rarely have. I rarely will. Why do I have a blender?

Insulated baking sheets, a good 9"x13" pan, the basic pots and pans, one wood block full of knives, a set each of measuring cups and measuring spoons, a few rubber spatulas and a metal one, etc. are enough for me. I get frustrated when I have to paw through too much to get what I want-- especially if the pawing turns up items I rarely use.

Gadgets aren't the kind of thing I use. (Does anyone who has to wash everything by hand use gadgets? My motto is generally that less is less washing, and it's a working motto.)

But there's one gadget I love. It gets used almost daily. It doesn't take much time to wash. It didn't cost much to buy. And it comes from a really cool place.

This is my beloved gadget:

  1. Ha.  I have never seen a garlic peeler like that before.
I love wandering around William Sonoma... it's one of my favorite stores, although I don't get to shop their often as it's rather pricey.
    Have you tried this thing:

  2. My oldest son, Jon, has that same favorite gadget.  He loves it.  Then again, he does the cooking.  Gotta love that!

  3. Are you kidding me right now? That video of your two oldest is by far the GREATEST! I can't believe the tapping of the foot (G.) and the little cough (B.) Have you ever seen anything so adorable? Can you believe that we get to spend our days with these precious little ones? Would you trade it for the world? I have to say- regarding the missions trip- I will certainly pray. You will certainly pray. I have my opinions and others have theirs. His will for your family is going to be done- no matter how selfish you think you are. Not knowing you much better than the last time I said this- I'll say it again- I think you and I are A LOT alike. You confess your weaknesses a bit better than I, but often I feel like "OK- see, Lord- she just confessed it for both of us!" And if I could be so bold...I suspect our husbands may be a lot alike, too. This is how I know that it'll all be OK. (I know you already KNOW this- I'm just reminding you!) You know you can trust your husband. You also know that any trial you'll have to face in his absence (should he go) will develop character in you and bring you to a point of maturity that will glorify Him beyond belief. P.S. Please pray for my friend! Don't forget! She is loving, forgiving, and living out the truth in miraculous ways! I ask for your prayers specifically because I know you have these isuues (marriage, family, parenting) continually on your heart and mind. Thanks, Brietta! I appreciate everything!

  4. I have this on my wish list since you gave me the link before... Then I wandered the rest of their site and added to it!!!  You just may have me hooked.  I am not a huge gadget person either but there are some things I really do need -like a food processor that works!!!  (Their neat chopper might be the ticket!)

  7. Brietta.....that is so funny.  I am quite the opposite.  I want EVERY gadget.  I hardly cook anything anymore, :-0.....but,I find comfort in having all my gadgets.  I keep telling my husband, it's a good thing we don't have a bigger house, because I would have more "stuff".  But especially in the kitchen.  I have never seen a garlic peeler like that.  Very interesting.

  8. lol i was VERY curious to find out what gadget would make it into your kitchen- i often wonder about my blender too! i mean so much counter space in my small kitchen given to ONE thing that i rarely use. i think that if i had to pick one thing i love that i keep on our counter (even though we don't use it tooooo much) is my george forman grill. anyways, i don't use REAL garlic enough to get the peeler i don't think=)

  9. So it peels the garlic? What about the Pampered Chef garlic press that takes care of the peeling and the mincing simultaneously? I love mine. It's the best garlic press. I use more garlic b/c of it.
