A Recipe

I tried a new recipe for salmon tonight. My family loves fish, but since I can't afford am too cheap to buy it fresh, I have to find good recipes that make the frozen fillets taste almost as good.

This recipe was a huge hit. Daniel said he's never had fish that tastes so good. Ever.

So I thought I would share it because not only is it delicious, it's easy and pretty healthy, too.

<Edit>I think even people who don't typically like fish would like this recipe. Honestly. So if you're a wife who's been feeling as though she ought to make fish for your husband but can't stand the thought of eating it yourself, use this recipe. At the very least, you'll find it tolerable (unless you're deathly allergic, of course!).</Edit>

Maple Salmon

1/4c maple syrup (must be real syrup, folks)
2T soy sauce
1 clove garlic, minced
1/4tsp garlic salt
1/8tsp ground black pepper
1lb salmon -- or 4 4-oz fillets

1. Mix syrup, soy sauce, garlic, garlic salt, and pepper in a medium bowl.
2. Place salmon in a shallow glass baking dish and pour sauce over. Cover the dish and marinate 30 minutes in the refrigerator, turning once.
3. Preheat oven to 400*.
4. Bake fish uncovered for 20 minutes or until flaky.

I recommend serving it with rice or couscous. So yummy!

  1. My husband is going to love you for this. I hate fish, but I make it for him and I just might have to try this special treat for him! Thanks!

  2. Good for you for trying out new recipes! Dan likes fish, but I hate-HATE it. *shudder* So, as a result, I have never once (in 7+ years of marriage) ever cooked fish. *sigh* ...I feel guilty that my kids will not like fish because I never make it, so I probably should just bite the bullet and DO it. Maybe with this recipe. ;)

  6. We are huge fans of salmon. Molly and Colby often expresses their desire to have it "at least once a week." Ha!
I will give you the number to Northern Gourmet. Marc Giroux is a guy who lives in NH, but travels all over New England with his freezer truck FULL of delicious frozen meats (and gourmet pastas, ie. Lobster Ravioli). He has the best haddock and salmon we have ever had. You simply cannot get this quality seafood anywhere else. And although his prices seem a bit steep at first, when you do the math it comes out to be equal to or even a tad less than Angelo's Fresh Fish Market. The fish (no matter what kind) is caught and immediately cleaned and flash frozen, minutes after it is caught. This is the key to the fresh flavor and no-fishy taste.
He will stop by when he is in the area (which is once or twice each month) and give you samples of whatever you think you'd like to try. That way you can be sure you like the product before you "invest".
It's possible that on Friday after CFA, Deb will be taking my children home with her. If she does, I want to take you up on your offer to visit Aubrey. Let me know if you have plans to be away during that time and I'll try again at a later date!
Glad Daniel liked the fish so much. I love it when dinner is such a hit (especially with my hubby)!

  7. Sorry...neither Matt or I like fish so I can't try out your recipe.  I wish I liked it.
Have you ever seen "The Italian Job"?  It's really similar to Ocean's 11, which I agree is really good.  Come to think of it, I think Oceans 13 is out on DVD and rental now.  I've been waiting since June to see it!
    Have a great day!

  9. gotta love fish!  So yummy and so good for ya.  The best part is you don't have to worry about all the hormones that they give the chickens and such.  Makes a healthy thing go sour real fast.  Take Lisa up on the fish offer..she raves about it all the time!

  10. btw--
thanks for your feedback on the preschool stuff.  I am still looking and am finding a few great options.  I will let you know what I decide.  Couting raisins and just doing every day learning is of course the best way.  Teaching your children is a 24/7 thing.  Somehow so many miss that, too bad.

  11. I hate salmon!  In fact I don't like fish very much at all.  After a 10+ year hiatus from it due to having food poisoning from it the last time I ate it; I have started eating fish again.  But, only after my Mom suggested Gorton's Beer Battered Fish Fillets.  They are frozen and breaded.  So, I tried them and liked them enough to get more fish in my diet.  Otherwise, my fish staple is tuna sandwhichs!  The first time I set foot in my husbands house- (at the beginning of our courtship) they served Salmon and Peas and I ate it!!  No, i didn't like it and the smell made me nauseas but I didn't want to offend anyone.  lol.  But, trying new recipes are good for you and your family!! :)
