First Day, 38 Weeks Pregnant, and Rain

:: Today is the first CFA Enrichment Program (aka Friday School) of the school year. Gabriel has been counting down the days for the past three weeks. Bronwyn has vacillated between excitement about being old enough to go and absolute terror at the idea of being in a classroom without Gabriel. Fortunately, the pretty lunchbox she inherited from one of her aunts made all the difference this morning and she gladly helped pack it full of food before heading out the door.

I'm home with just two kids, and one of them naps from about 10:30am-12:30pm. It is eerily quiet.

:: I'm 38+5 weeks pregnant. I feel like my tummy is gigantic now, and I would post a picture to show the growth except that I'm too lazy to get up and take a photo of myself. Everybody makes comments everywhere I go about how "all belly" I am, which I'm beginning to think is the nice way of saying, "You're huge!" I've gained 24lbs to date and, surprisingly, nobody at my doctor's office has said anything negative about it.

The latest ultrasound showed yet another increase in amniotic fluid, bringing us to almost double what we were last week and totally within the "safe" zone. I still only measured 36cm at my appointment yesterday, but if you could see the way this baby fills up my belly, you would agree with my hunch that the small measurement is not because of a small baby.

My project this week was to pack a bag for the hospital. I haven't done it. I just want the baby to stay put for the next 3 weeks because there are lots of fun things happening that I simply don't want to miss out on, and putting off my projects helps me feel like I have control over that. (How selfish-- and ridiculous-- is that???)

:: I think one of my favorite things about fall is that it's the only season that is improved upon by rain.

The other day I was driving just after a rainstorm and I couldn't believe how much more vibrant and shiny the colors all around me were thanks to the rain.

In the fall, I want to stay inside as much as possible, cook hot soups, and sip warm beverages all day long. I love that the rain helps me justify doing so.

I adore that my kids have to wear their rainboots every time they go out to play because the ground is cool and damp.

  1. Your house must feel empty, I really notice a difference when just one is missing. I can't believe how soon you are due! It's fun not knowing even for an outsider... though after that 'word' I've just had BOY in mind this whole time! You are all baby and you look great because of it!

  2. No, I think that "all belly" comments mean you are stick-skinny everywhere except your belly... alternately, that you have gained NO weight anywhere else BUT your belly!!! Nice try, though. :)

  3. @sarahellie - Haha, nice try comforting me!  But when even your husband says, "You've got some extra junk in the trunk these days," you know you've gotten a bit rounder in places other than just the belly!

  4. Cute!  So, how long does Friday school go for (aka how long do you get this quiet and nice break)?  Which kiddo is sleeping?  Jackson or Aubrey cuz NONE of my kids will sleep anymore.  Not even my two year old!!  Especially NOT my two year old, ha!

  6. I'm going to say, "all belly" is simply describing the fact that you have NOT gained any other weight in those not belly places! Seriously, only gaining 24 pounds pretty much makes it a fact it's all baby weight! I dream of the day I can only gain 24 pounds while pregnant. Heck, I'll take 44 pounds. Anything would be better than 65 pounds ;)
    I can't believe your so.very.close.to.delivery! I can't wait:) Boy??? Girl???

  7. @MrsRYoung - Friday School runs from 8:15am - 1:10pm.  Just enough each week for the kids to look forward to without me having to share them too much. Aubrey's the one who sleeps then.  Would you believe that if I try to lay her down in the afternoon, she doesn't sleep; but she'll go for close to 2 hours if I put her down in the morning??? Weird, I know... And probably doesn't bode well for the teenage years!!!!

  8. My youngest will sleep in the morning for 2-3 hours! But yes if  he goes down in the afternoon he wont sleep long at all! Do you have any names picked out yet? do you know what you are having? you are very close! I am going to be 33 weeks on sunday and that is really close for me! i am measuring overdue now with the twins but they are both a good size so the docs are not worried at all! your weight gain sounds good! They allowed me up to 50 lbs with twins but i said "50 lbs???? i hope not!!" God bless and have a good last couple weeks!!

  9. Yes, I agree about friday school!  But, I am sure it's nice little time for you and the littlest ones.  Haha....I can not believe Aubrey would nap in the morning. That is so different! I can only get my 2 year old to sleep if he gets up at 8am and I wait until 2pm to put him to nap.  Very specific!
